Spirit Groups

The NSU Cheerleaders are the driving force behind game day energy at Northwestern State University, serving as proud ambassadors of Demon spirit both on and off the field. Combining athleticism, precision, and showmanship, the squad performs high-flying stunts, tumbling, and crowd-pumping routines at every home football and basketball game, all while representing NSU on the national stage. The team has earned back-to-back UCA/UDA College Nationals titles and University World Cup Championships, cementing its reputation as one of the top programs in the country. Beyond competition, NSU Cheerleaders serve as role models and community representatives, embodying the strength, spirit, and pride that defines the Demon family.

All members receive a scholarship, but must enroll in the varsity dance and pep band classes as well as maintain a 2.0 semester and cumulative GPA.

May 21-23, 2027 – Cheer and Vic The Demon Tryouts

Since 1969, the Purple Pizzazz Pom Line has loved the tradition of showing their spirit for purple and white, cheering on the Demons, and serving as a representative of Northwestern State University. We are an elite team of entertaining and strong performers with collegiate professionalism. As a member of the pom line, there are many benefits such as performances at all home basketball and football games as well as conference baseball games, opportunities for campus and community service, involvement on campus, and more.

May 15, 2027 – Purple Pizzazz Pomline Tryouts

The Demon Dazzler Dance Line serves as the official dance line of NSU while also being an auxiliary unit of the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band. During the fall semester, you will find the Dazzlers at NSU Football games, NSU Lady Demon Volleyball games, N-Side View Days, pep rally’s, the Annual NSU Christmas Gala, and the Natchitoches Christmas Parade along with many other events in the Natchitoches community. During the spring semester, Dazzlers perform at NSU men’s and women’s basketball games, and compete at College Nationals in Daytona, FL.

Think you have what it takes to bring Vic to life? We’re looking for creative, spontaneous and energetic students who can embody Vic’s friendly, caring and energetic personality.

Requirements:

• 2.0 cumulative GPA at the time of audition
• Prepare a 1:30-minute skit and bring props
• Flexible schedule, including some holiday breaks
• Available for practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6–8:30 p.m.
• Full-year commitment

Being a Vic the Demon Handler is a time-honored NSU tradition. Handlers are entrusted with one of the university’s most recognizable traditions, helping Vic make appearances, connect with Demon fans and bring the spirit of NSU to life.

*Please note that once your registration is received through varsity, you will receive a confirmation letter via email for the camp from NSU. If you register through NSU, be sure to send the registration form fully completed in order to properly register your team. Invoicing will be e-mailed out in the beginning of April.
