NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University recognized Capt. Demond Mayfield and Instructor of Military Science JaJuan Broussard as Honorary Captains of the Nov. 21 football game against Stephen F. Austin University. NSU traditionally invites veterans, active duty service members and support personnel to be recognized as Honorary Captains and perform the coin toss at all home football games.

 

Mayfield is a New Orleans native and a 2015 Northwestern State graduate.  He commissioned through NSU’s ROTC program and currently serves with 525 Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk.  He has seven years of service and participated in Operation Atlantic Resolve in 2017.

 

Broussard is a instructor of Military Science for NSU ROTC.  He is a Drill Sergeant candidate with five years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve, including a deployment to Iraq.  Broussard is assigned to the Drill Sergeant Unit with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 354th Regiment, 95th Training Division.  While attending NSU, he was a member of Theta Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and currently serves with Silver Square Lodge, number 49, Prince Hall Affiliated.
