Greek Life

Lead. Serve. Belong.

Greek Life is more than a tradition — it’s a launchpad for lifelong connections, leadership development, academic success, and personal growth. With 16 active fraternities and sororities across three governing councils, NSU’s Greek community empowers students to get involved, give back, and graduate with purpose.

Built on Values That Matter

Leadership

Fraternity and sorority members are among the most engaged student leaders at NSU. You’ll find Greeks serving as SGA officers, orientation leaders, honor society members, and campus ambassadors. Every chapter is self-governed, giving members the opportunity to lead teams, manage budgets, run events, and make real decisions that prepare them for life after college.

Scholarship

Academic success is a core value of the Greek experience. Every chapter offers scholarship support through mentoring, tutoring, study sessions, and academic programming. Greek students consistently appear on the Dean’s and President’s Lists, belong to honor societies, and graduate with honors.

Service

With over 9,000 hours of community service performed annually, NSU’s Greek organizations are deeply committed to giving back. Chapters support local and national causes through volunteer projects and fundraising events that foster citizenship and purpose.

What You Should Know About Greek Life

Before joining, it's important to understand what comes with membership. Every chapter has its own values, traditions, and expectations, but all are rooted in scholarship, service, integrity, and community. From time commitments and financial responsibilities to GPA requirements and recruitment processes, Greek Life is designed to enhance—not overwhelm—your college experience.

Recruitment & New Member Process

Recruitment is a mutual selection process—whether formal, informal, or intake. Participating does not obligate students to join, but it’s a great way to learn about the community. New member education lasts no more than eight weeks and includes leadership lessons, service events, academic sessions, and safety training. NSU strictly prohibits hazing in any form.

Academics First

All chapters require a minimum GPA to join and maintain membership. Many offer tutoring, study sessions, and scholarships to support academic success.

Financial Responsibility

Fraternity and sorority membership comes with dues and fees, which vary by chapter. We encourage families to have open conversations about budgeting and affordability during recruitment.

Time Commitment

Greek Life involves meetings, events, service, and leadership opportunities. While it requires commitment, academics always come first. Students should balance their schedules to make the most of both academic and Greek life.
