NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University will hold its Fall N-Side View Day and Scholars’ Day on Saturday, Nov. 14. The event is designed to give prospective students and their parents an up close look at what Northwestern State has to offer. Scholars’ Day is for students with an interest in the Louisiana Scholars’ College, the state’s selected admissions honors college of the liberal arts and sciences.

All proper PPE (mask, face shield, etc.) are required while on campus at NSU and attending N-Side View Day. The majority of the event will be at outside locations to help with social distancing, but when inside, maximum building and room capacities will be adhered to. Please be patient if asked to wait for a session due to maximum capacity being reached.  Students are allowed to bring a maximum of two guests. When possible, please attempt to limit the guest count.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Collins Pavilion on the Tailgating Field near Turpin Stadium and the Athletic Fieldhouse with displays by campus organizations on the field. The welcome begins at 10 a.m. followed by the day’s events on campus.

N-Side View Day will be divided into various tracks for admitted seniors, non-admitted seniors, high school juniors and seniors, first generation students, parents and students considering the Louisiana Scholars’ College that will provide information for their specific needs. Lunch will be made available in either Iberville Dining Hall or Vic’s in the Friedman Student Union. The Jimmy D. Long Sr. Student Services Center will be open throughout the day to provide information on admissions and financial aid.

Admitted seniors will receive information on scholarships, financial aid, housing and Freshman Connection. They will attend a panel discussion with current NSU students, learn about academic programs and take part in a campus tour.

Non-admitted seniors will receive an overview of academic programs from Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Greg Handel and learn about the admissions process. They will have an opportunity to apply for admission to the university and talk with faculty and department heads about academic programs of interest. They can also take a campus tour.

High school juniors and sophomores will learn about personalities, majors and careers from Brittany McMinn of NSU’s Office of Counseling and Career Services. They will hear from alumni including Dr. Nikki Caesar-Small about the journey from student to alumni. Participants in this track will be able to take a campus tour that will include housing and learn about academic programs at NSU.

Prospective first generation students will receive an overview of NSU’s successful Student Support Services and TRIO programs from Director Frances Welch and hear from students who have been helped by these programs. Participants in this track will be able to take a campus tour that will include housing and learn about academic programs at NSU.

Parents will learn about campus resources for students from Director of Recruiting Van Erikson and attend a panel discussion in which current NSU students can answer their questions. Participants in this track will be able to take a campus tour that will include housing and learn about academic programs at NSU.

Scholars’ Day begins with the welcome and introduction of faculty and an overview of the curriculum and concentrations from interim Director Dr. Thomas Reynolds followed by an opportunity to view a Scholars’ class and seminar. There will also be separate student and parent panels, a chance to learn more about academic programs and a campus tour.
