News 22 SmallThe Department of Journalism at Northwestern State University provides a program of study that affords students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds the opportunity to prepare for a professional journalism degree. Students develop the skills and knowledge needed for professional employment or advanced studies. Further, the program of study, built on a broad liberal arts tradition, incorporates the values, ethics and attitudes associated with professional standards of mass media.

Students choose one of three concentrations: broadcast, news-editorial or public relations. These concentrations allow students to tailor their education for individual desired career goals. The Department provides modern production equipment and a fully equipped computer lab to support all three concentration areas.

All faculty members have advanced degrees and are experienced journalists and public relations professionals, providing insight beyond textbooks.

The NSU Department of Journalism is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC), a highly regarded recognition earned by only about 20 percent of all schools of journalism nationwide.
