Admission Requirements:

Step 1: Apply for Admission

  • Online Application Guide: Click here (look under “I’m An Online Student”)
  • There is a $20 application fee that can be paid electronically. Students can log into the “Activity Log” to see the date the application is actually “received” by the school.
  • Processing of this application could take up to two weeks.

Step 2: File “Proof of Immunization/Request for Exemption Form” with the Admissions Office.

Immunization Form – Please complete the compliance form if records are available. Compliance forms can be printed and filled out by hand and faxed to 318.357.4660 or emailed to the admissions office using the email address of applications@nsula.edu. Please email or fax proof of immunization records from your Physician or Care Provider as well.

Please complete the waiver if records are not available, if taking all online classes only, etc. This form can be completed digitally and emailed to the admissions office using the email address of applications@nsula.edu. Waivers can also be printed and filled out by hand and faxed to 318.357.4660.

Step 3: Submit Copy of Selective Service Registration Card

  • Males 18-25 yrs.; to register or obtain proof visit www.sss.gov. Verification can be faxed or mailed to Admissions.

Step 4: Send transcripts (high school or other college) or GED to the university.

  • Note to Grad students: You will need to send your transcripts, GRE scores, 2 letters of recommendation, and immunization forms to the graduate office. (Office of the Dean, Graduate Studies, Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA 71497)

  • Student must request official transcripts from other institutions attended.
  • Official transcripts can be sent electronically from previously attended institutions to the Office of Admissions at applications@nsula.edu.  If transcripts must be mailed, they can be sent to: NSU Office of Admissions, 175 Sam Sibley Dr, Natchitoches, LA 71497.

Step 5: Send Official ACT, SAT or Accuplacer Scores

  • Official test scores are those that are sent to Admissions directly from your high school or testing center by mail or fax. Test scores are not needed for transfers with 18+ hours if you have received credit for freshman math and English.

Step 6: Apply for financial aid.

  • The student must have completed a FAFSA before financial aid eligibility can be calculated. The FAFSA can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • The following financial aid forms are available on the web (https://www.nsula.edu/financialaid/forms/) in PDF format to be downloaded, printed, and mailed back to the Financial Aid Office:
    -NSU Scholarship Application
    -NSU Financial Aid Data Form (MUST be filled out)
    -Verification Worksheets

Step 7: Speak with an advisor associated with the program in which you will enroll.

Step 8: Register for classes.

To simplify the registration process, we encourage students to connect to NSU Connect through their myNSU account at http://my.nsula.edu.

  • If you have completed less than 30 hours at NSU, you will have an advisement hold on your account.  You will need to call or email your advisor and they will be able to assist you with an “alternate PIN” for registering your classes.
  • If you have over 30 hours at NSU, you may register yourself online at http://my.nsula.edu.
  • Transfer students with more than 30 hours can also register on-line (after speaking with an advisor).

Step 9: Order your textbooks.

You can order your textbooks online from the NSU Book Store.   You can search by course for the books you need.  Visit NSU Bookstore to order your books.

Step 10: Log in to Moodle.

You will not be able to see your classes listed in Moodle until the first day of classes.  You can view the Northwestern State Academic Calendar (on the Office of the Registrar’s webpage) to see important dates for the semester.
