NATCHITOCHES – Kelston Antoine, a Northwestern State University mathematics major from St. Martinville, earned third place in the student presentation competition at the Louisiana/Mississippi Mathematical Association of America section meeting held at the University of Mississippi March 2-4. Antoine’s paper and presentation were on “Candy Crush Combinatorics,” in which she examined calculating the number of different valid Candy Crush boards that can exist. The Mathematical Association of America is the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students and enthusiasts. Members further the understanding of the world through mathematics because mathematics drives society and shapes people’s lives.
