NATCHITOCHES – Two Northwestern State University nursing students earned summer scholarships from the Community Healthcare Education Network.

Anna Hooper of Stonewall and Kenya Mahoney of Shreveport were surprised with summer scholarship during the CHEN Spring Event.  The two were chosen from among 40 applicants with the scholarship committee selecting them on the basis of personal essays that detailed their challenges and perseverance. Mahoney received $2,000 while Hooper received $1,000.

The Community Healthcare Education Network is a voluntary non-profit corporation that consists of healthcare professionals, businesses, agencies and organizations that provide education.  NSU Nursing has been an honorary member of CHEN since 2019.

“We are grateful for the support CHEN has provided for nursing student scholarships and our medical mission trips,” said Dr. Anna Morris, associate professor of nursing, senior director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Administrator with NSU’s College of Nursing.
