NATCHITOCHES –  Northwestern State University’s Department of Mathematics hosted the annual Demon Math Classic, a quiz bowl-style competition for high school students. Seven teams from four high schools participated.

Individual competition winners were Abbas Khamabatti of Bolton High School, first place;  Gergely Szarvas of C.E. Byrd High School, second place, and Jake Scherer of Bolton High School, third place.

The top competitors from each team were selected by the NSU mathematics faculty as All Stars.  They were Szarvas, Scherer, Khamabatti, Sarah Quarles of C.E. Byrd, Jayden King and Jason Hwang of Pineville High School and Julian Lewis of Stanley High School.

Team competition winners were C.E.Byrd, first place;  Bolton White Team, second place, and Bolton Blue Team, third place. Each received a medal and Byrd received the traveling trophy for the year.
