NATCHITOCHES – Ron Martin, CPP (Certified Protection Professional),  will be the guest speaker at a July 9 virtual business seminar hosted by Northwestern State University’s College of Business and Technology. Martin serves on NSU’s Computer Information Systems advisory board and will discuss “Small Business Information Security.”

The monthly virtual business seminars are designed to offer sustainability strategies during unstable economic times.  The seminar will begin at noon.

“Mr. Ron Martin is an amazing asset to our Board, and we are delighted that he provides us insights from his decades of service to our country as well as his continued involvement in the cybersecurity space,” said Dr. Carmella Parker, professor and coordinator of outreach and special projects for NSU’s School of Business.

Martin will discuss small business information security, security in the commercial facility sector and cybersecurity framework.

Martin is executive director of Open Security Exchange, an association of security experts that provides a forum for organizations to define opportunities for physical and logical convergence and interoperability. He is also COE of Consullition, which provides clients with strategies in security convergence integration, identity, credentialing an access management programs.

Through his consultancy, Martin has relationships with a diverse mix of businesses. He served as a board of directors for-profit and non-profit organizations. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1999 and the U.S. government in 2011.

In between his tours of federal service, he served five years as a civilian police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. During his federal service, he served with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as the program director for the development and implementation of the department’s Identity, Credentialing and Access Management (ICAM) Ppogram. He now serves on the Security Industry Association and ASIS International Standards Committees.

Martin is a member of the ASIS International’s Commission on Standards & Guidelines. Commission and is a voting member of the United States Technical Advisory Group to International Standards Organization (ISO) which works to develop the U.S. position by ensuring the involvement of U.S stakeholders from the private and public sectors.

While on active duty, he served as military comptroller, provost marshal, security manager and a doctrine literature writer and instructor. Martin served as a member of the Federal Identity, Credentialing and Access Management (FICAM) Roadmap Development Team and provided FICAM subject matter expertise by providing assistance to federal agencies and organizations engaged in identity Ccedentialing activities.

Martin is an adjunct professor at Capitol Technology University in the areas of critical infrastructure, industrial control system security, and access and identity management.
