NATCHITOCHES – The Cane River Singers will perform Orff’s epic multi-movement work, “Carmina Burana” on Sunday, April 14. at 3 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Adam Philley conducts the Cane River Singers. NSU faculty member Dr. John Dunn will give a pre-concert talk at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. A live stream of the concert will be available at nsula.edu/capa/capalivestream.

Philley said this version is arranged for two pianos, lots of percussion and soloists. Dan Ley and Dr. Chialing Hsieh will be playing the piano parts. Dr. Oliver Molina and several of his students will be covering the percussion parts. Dr. Terrie Sanders, Dr. Robert Cardwell and Jason Matthew Thomas, husband of Director of Music Theater Dr. Sloane Artis, will sing the solos.

‘“Carmina Burana’ is a piece that is at once instantly identifiable, yet at the same time defies expectations,” said Dunn. “For example, parts of it are in Latin, yet the work is decidedly non-religious; the music is universal in its appeal yet was created as an emblem of specific culture.”
