NSU currently offers a competency-based option in Computer Information Systems (CIS). The CIS program offers curricula leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in CIS. The program provides both theoretical and practical “hands-on” classes in Database, Networking, Programming, and Systems Analysis & Design. The CIS area changes frequently and, with that in mind, NSU’s CIS curriculum has changed to maintain currency with workforce needs.
CIS careers are routinely listed as the top (or near the top) career paths in America and are projected to continue their growth in the future. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics continues to list information technology and CIS careers at (or near) the top of the list in career growth opportunities, career satisfaction, and in entry level salaries.
The CIS program at NSU opens many career paths and creates special opportunities for students during their academic career and after graduation. To meet the demand in the CIS fields, NSU offers three concentrations – (1) Application Development, (2) Networking and Systems Management, and (3) Web Development.
The University recognizes that many non-degreed professionals are already working in the fields of mobile applications development, data analytics, network implementation and administration, and cloud computing. Thus, these professionals who wish to obtain their degree for greater success have the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of these subjects, and work toward their degree quickly.
