Students from Northwestern State University’s Department of New Media, Journalism and Communications Arts visited Fort Polk as part of a multimedia strategic communication campaign project for the Joint Readiness Training Center. Objectives were to help JRTC find qualified candidates for available job positions at Fort Polk, rectify misperceptions about Fort Polk and recruit student interns for marketing, communications, public relations and multimedia positions. Students, who taking Department Head Dr. Jessica Zhang’s COMM2360 Principles of Strategic Communication class, tried out JRTC’s podcast room and video production studio. Col. Dwight Berry, deputy commander for nursing, along with his colleagues, gave students an in-depth tour of the hospital and its data center. Students interviewed a hospital social worker and two long-term government employees regarding their experience and life in Fort Polk. Deputy Public Officer Keith Houin invited COMM2360 for this field trip and Chuck Cannon who is specialized in community/media relations in the Public Affairs Office was the tour guide for this field trip.
