Educational Leadership and Instruction Specialist Degree: Educational Technology Concentration (582H)

NSU’s online Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology (582H) prepares teachers, technology coordinators, supervisors, and administrators to become technology practitioners and advocates. This research-based program focuses on the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to select and integrate technology and instructional materials into teaching strategies for diverse learners.

Per the NSU Catalog, the educational specialist degree requires 15 hours of core courses, including research and statistics, and 24 hours in the educational technology concentration. Based on an applicant’s transcripts, a candidate may receive credit for or have already taken courses required for the degree. A minimum of 30 hours above the master’s degree is required for a specialist degree. A candidate’s concentration coursework is tailored to his/her unique career path and goals. The program offers coursework based on those with a master’s in educational technology and those with a master’s degree in another field.

Those admitted must be certified teachers and meet conditional or regular admission to the Graduate School.

To begin the program, first apply for admission. The items needed for regular admission include: (1) a score of 282 on the new GRE test for verbal + quantitative; (2) three successful years of teaching with certification; and (3) two letters of recommendation from appropriate school, college or work-related officials/supervisors. An applicant can be admitted under conditional status with a GRE score of 280. A student can be admitted to candidacy after successful completion of 12 hours of courses with a grade of “B” or better.
