Admission and Candidacy

Undergraduate Programs

Admission to the university is not admission to a specific teacher education program. Admission to a specific program occurs after 1) admission to the university and 2) satisfying certain academic requirements. Admission to a program is referred to as “teacher candidacy.”

Undergraduate students must maintain teacher candidacy status once admitted to a teacher education program. This includes maintaining a minimum overall GPA of 2.50/4.00, complete all degree-applicable courses with a grade of C or better, and meeting all other academic requirements.

Note: Students majoring in child and family studies do not participate in teacher candidacy.

Graduate Programs

All graduate programs, including all alternate certification programs, have different admission and retention requirements. Explore each program’s requirements at Program Offerings.
