NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State University Foundation is seeking to establish a second STEM professorships through matching funds available from the University of Louisiana System Foundation.
In 2019, the ULS Foundation received an anonymous $800,000 donation through the Chicago Community Trust. The funds are allocated to support new STEM professorships, divided equally between males and females. The ULS Foundation will provide two $40,000 donations to each of the System’s nine universities, including NSU, to be matched with $60,000 in private funds raised by each university.
The deadline for universities to request funding is Dec. 31.
Each university in the UL System will ensure that one professorship is provided to a male and one to a female for STEM programs. The ULS Foundation will allocate the remaining $80,000 to two competitive requests ($40,000 each) for professorships based on proposals received from the universities. The criteria will be determined and submitted to Foundation board members for their review, comments and approval. The professorships will be named the University of Louisiana System Foundation and (donor name) Professorship in (program name.)
The University of Louisiana System includes nine university that serve more than 91,500 students. The STEM professorship initiative dovetails with the system’s mission of producing the most educated workforce in Louisiana’s history to be competitive in the technology-driven economy of the future.
Endowed professorships allow faculty to fund research and pursue professional development opportunities that enhance classroom instruction. NSU has one STEM professorship already funded, the Stan Chadick Professorship in Math.
