Scott Poole, president and chief operating officer for RoyOMartin spoke with area students who attended Northwestern State University’s fourth annual Engineering Technology Symposium Nov. 9. Hosted by the Department of Engineering Technology, the symposium is intended to bring together academia, industry and workforce development constituents to discuss common issues related to the future job needs how those issues will impact industry and business. This year’s theme was “Critical Thinking.” According to data, the U.S. needs to fill about 4 million STEM positions over the next decade.
Dr. Mohammad Saadah delivered a presentation to a mixture of high school and college students during the Engineering Technology Symposium. Students later provided feedback indicating the symposium encourage them to develop critical thinking skills, future internships and explore career opportunities available in the industry. Students engaged in several activities in critical thinking and problem solving with NSU Middle Lab winning the competition. Dr. Nabin Sapkota was the event’s principal organizer with assistance from ET faculty and staff.
