Wear teal on Teal Tuesday, Sept. 20

NATCHITOCHES – Students and faculty at Northwestern State University and the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts have joined together for the annual Turn Teal Natchitoches initiative, a campaign to bring attention to ovarian cancer during September, nationally recognized as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Turn Teal Natchitoches was initiated by Leah Coleman Lentz in memory of her mother, Sue Gregory Coleman, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2012. Since then, Lentz, a counselor at LSMSA, has promoted Turn Teal in the local community, with the support of local businesses, schools and churches.  Earlier this month, she placed teal ribbons and bows on the NSU’s main gate at Second Street and Central Drive, as well as in front of LSMSA in an effort to educate the public about ovarian cancer, the importance of knowing one’s family medical history and the effectiveness of early detection. Lentz visited with students in NSU’s Presidential Leadership Program to encourage them to wear teal on Teal Tuesday, Sept. 20.  Pictured at front and center are Reatha Cox, NSU’s vice president for Student Experience/Dean of Students; Lentz and NSU President Dr. Marcus Jones, surrounded by PLP students.
