NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s College of Business and Technology will host two upcoming training seminars for human resources professionals.

Dr. Elizabeth Prejean will present Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) “Essentials of Human Resource Management.” Prejean, DBA, is a SHRM Essentials Certified Teacher and SHRM Education Partner coordinator for the Essentials class. Prejean has many years of experience working in the Human Resource field in California and has taught the topic for the last seven years at NSU.

SHRM Essentials of Human Resource Management will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, July 10 and Tuesday, July 11 in Russell Hall Room 115.

“This is must-training for all personnel new to the human resource function,” Prejean said. “Not only will you learn the fundamentals of HR but you also learn from your peers the challenges they face. You’ll have a different perspective and understanding of the human resource function within your organization.”

The cost of the course is $595 per student which includes all course materials and online access. Students will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course. Students must enroll and pay no later than 5 p.m. Friday. Dr. Vianka Miranda, DBA, will host an online SHRM Certified Prep class that will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 18 through 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 with instructor interaction every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2 p.m.

This certification prep course is for students who intend to sit for the SHRM-CP or SCP exam window which is open December 1 through February 15, 2024.

Miranda is an associate professor in NSU’s College of Business and Technology and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and SHRM Educational Partner Coordinator with extensive experience in executive administration and organizational development in various industry sectors.

Students will learn form a certified instructor who provides expertise, insights, and one-on-one guidance, acquire the knowledge and understand the behavioral competencies needed to prepare to pass the exam. The course is also an opportunity to network, share experiences and discuss best practices with a diverse group of HR professionals. The course is a structured learning experience in which individuals stay on track to earn certification.
