NATCHITOCHES – Pianist Tamami Honma will present a concert at Northwestern State University on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Tickets are $15. Those attending are asked to follow university regulations and to wear a mask at all times in the building. A livestream of the concert will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream.

Honma’s performance is part of the Louisiana Piano Series International. Northwestern State Assistant Professor of Piano Dr. John Price and Associate Professor of Piano Dr. Francis Yang are co-directors of the of the Louisiana Piano Series International.

She will play works by Bach, Beethoven, Moszkowski and Chopin.

Honma is firmly rooted in the great Romantic tradition as a student of Byron Janis who in turn was among a handful of students of Vladimir Horowitz. Her energetic and sensitive appearances have attracted praise, as soloist at Bolshoi Hall with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, at Carnegie Hall — “an eloquent, powerful performance” (New York Times) — and at Wigmore Hall in London — “‘an interpretation that was probably as transparent and faithful to the Goldberg Variations as it’s possible to be on a modern piano.”

She has frequently appeared on radio and television in Europe and in the U.S. and participated in major music festivals such as the Aldeburgh Festival and the Warsaw Autumn. Her recordings range from Mozart and Chopin to new composers. She has won high accolades in BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone and International Music Review and been featured in Yomiuri Shinbun, The Guardian and The Independent among other publications.

Honma was on the academic staff at the Royal Academy of Music in London before joining the faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a vocal and ensemble coach and is artistic director of the Cal Arte Ensemble. She is currently also staff pianist and vocal/ensemble coach in the Braun Music Department at Stanford University.
