NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Department of Military Science hosted the fall awards program for the 70th Demon Battalion Thursday, Dec. 5.  The event recognized the accomplishments of outstanding cadets in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

 

Cadets Maria Magdalena Bansil and Larancion Magee, who commissioned in May 2019, were recognized for completing Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Basic Camp this past summer.  Bansil is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree with a minor in military leadership.  She will commission on active duty in May 2020 and serve in the Military Intelligence Corps.  Magee is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in General Studies degree with a concentration in social science.  He will commission in the U.S. Army Reserves.

 

Cade Joseph Orchi is also pursuing a Bachelor of Science in General Studies degree with a concentration and minor in social science. He will commission on active duty and serve in the Military Intelligence Corps.

 

Recognized for completing Basic Camp were Cadets Justin Broussard, Tanner Delphin and Ronesha Johnson.

 

Recognized for academic honors were Cadet Joseph Orchi, 4.0 GPA; and Cadets Neil Garcia, Ronesha Johnson, Gennyfer Pena, Seth Ozsoy, Katelyn Watson, Kylee Cole and Michael Shamblin, 3.5-3.99 GPA.

 

MSIV, senior level cadets, and honors are as follows.

 

Cadet Maria Bansil serves as commander of the Demon Battalion and Ranger Challenge Captain.  She received Silver Medal Athlete and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Larancion Magee and Joseph Orchi both received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.

 

MSIII, junior level cadets, and honors are as follows.

 

Cadet Justin Broussard received the Color Guard award, recognition for intramural sports and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Mackenzie Buie-Grace, the Demon Battalion executive officer, received GPA honors and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Tanner Delphin received the Color Guard award and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Zaria Francis and Cadet Bruna Galarza both received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cade Neil Garcia, Demon Battalion Command Sergeant Major, received the Color Guard award and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Ronesha Johnson, Battalion S-2, Intelligence and Recruiting Officer, was recognized for intramural sports and received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.

 

Cadet Ethan Lewis, platoon leader and Ranger Challenge co-captain, received Cadet GPA honors, Color Guard award, intramural sports recognition and the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Gennyfer Pena, S-3, Battalion Operations and Training officer, received Gold Medal Athlete award and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Robert Sneed received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Adrian Vandiver, S-6, communications officer, received GPA honors and the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Meya Morse received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.

 

MSIIs, sophomore level cadets, and honors are as follows.

 

Cadet Ashley Flonnory received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Taevon Hogan and Cadet Tray Johnson both received intramural sports recognition and the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Caleb Krikorian, company commander, received Cadet GPA Scholars award, Color Guard award, intramural sports recognition and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Rory Loud received intramural sports recognition. Cadet Trenton Malmay earned GPA honors and Silver Medal Athlete award.

 

Cadet Seth Ozsoy, Battalion S-4, logistics officer, earned Dean’s List honors, Color Guard Award and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Gavin Scott, Company First Sergeant, received Cadet GPA Scholar award, Bronze Medal Athlete, intramural sports recognition and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Alex Wade received Cadet GPA honors.  Cadet Katelyn Watson was recognized for Dean’s List honors, Color Guard Award and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.

 

MSIs, first year cadets, and honors are as follows.

 

Cadet Kylee Cole received Dean’s List honor and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Taylor Dixon received Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Khadijah Evans received intramural sports recognition and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Timothy Harvill received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Byron James received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Makayla Nash received intramural sports recognition and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Michael Shamblin received intramural sports recognition and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.  Cadet Dylan Trueblood, Demon Battalion color sergeant, received Color Guard Award and Cadet Recruiting Ribbon. Cadet Michael Wilkinson received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.

 

Cadet Ronesha Johnson won the academic award for the highest grade point average.

 

Cadet Neil Garcia was awarded the Teresa Cazales Scholarship, a $250 award. He also received the James A. Noe Memorial scholarship, a $500 award presented to a cadet who displays a high degree of leadership potential, a high standard of moral conduct and who works to support the program.

 

Cadet Gennyfer Pena was awarded the Malcolm Daisy Scholarship established by Capt. Kristen Daisy in honor of her father.  The $500 scholarship recognizes perseverance against adversity and a drive to serve one’s country as a U.S. Army officer.  The cadet selected is recognized as hard-working, loyal and dedicated who exhibits all Army values and volunteers on a regular basis.
