A Personalized Learning Opportunity

Northwestern State University’s Competency-Based Program is a flexible education model that allows students to learn and advance at their own pace. Focusing on outcomes rather than time spent in a classroom, students progress as they demonstrate mastery of specific skills or knowledge, called competencies. This structure builds upon prior knowledge and experience. Know the material? Pass a pre-assessment and move on to the next unit. Need more time? Slow down and focus on what you need to learn. Whether you are pursuing a degree, updating your skills for the workplace, or taking a class for fun, NSU’s Competency-Based Program leaves the time, place, and pace of learning up to you.

Why Choose a Competency-Based Education?
