Welcome

We at Northwestern State enjoyed hosting the 2020 Southern Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association. Historic Downtown Natchitoches, Louisiana and the School of Creative and Performing Arts are ideal locations for hosting a conference.

The CBDNA Southern Division Conference in February 2020 will be held in what I consider to be the `Jewel in the Crown’ of Louisiana, “Natchitoches”. I have twice had the pleasure to visit this `picture perfect’ southern town and it’s wonderful and creative University music department. Music to survive in the future, needs insight, wisdom, vision and creative energy – they are in abundance both with the staff and students at Northwestern State University!! For me the `future’ starts in Natchitoches!

Nigel Clarke, Composer, Brussels, Belgium

Natchitoches would be an absolutely wonderful CBDNA Convention site! The town is quaint, and quite historic, with many wonderful restaurants. The NSU music facilities and performance halls are first rate, the school is extremely supportive of the fine arts.

Paula Crider, Professor Emerita, University of Texas

Natchitoches, possibly America’s best kept secret, nestles itself away in sleepy Northwestern Louisiana. Period houses and buildings give it its exclusive charm and it is small enough to walk around with ease and much enjoyment. It hosts a splendid university in serene surroundings and nearby attractions include the famous Africa House on the Melrose Plantation.

Martin Ellerby, Composer, United Kingdom

Natchitoches is a great Southern college town.  Situated on the river, the downtown area is very walkable and includes many unique shops and restaurants.  The beautiful scenery, great food, coupled with warm Southern hospitality make a trip to Natchitoches a delight.

Elva Kaye Lance, Director of Bands, Mississippi State University

I’ve always enjoyed visiting and performing in Natchitoches!  Friendly people in a charming, unique town full of good restaurants and culture.  The university is close to downtown so visitors can easily enjoy all Natchitoches has to offer!
