NATCHITOCHES – Central Lafourche High School was selected as Grand Champion of the Classic on the Cane Marching Competition held in Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University. 

Haughton was second overall followed by Lafayette, West Monroe and Airline. 

Ruston won first place in Division I followed by Franklin Parish and Pine Prairie. Ruston had the most outstanding percussion in the division and Pickering had the most outstanding auxiliary. 

In Division II, Ouachita had the most outstanding percussion and Central had the most outstanding auxiliary. 

Haughton had the top band in Division III with E.D. White second and Benton third. Haughton had the most outstanding percussion in the division and E.D. White had the most outstanding auxiliary. 

Central Lafourche finished first in Division IV. Lafayette was second and West Monroe was third. Central Lafourche had the most outstanding percussion and the most outstanding auxiliary. 

Tioga won the award for most outstanding show. Lafayette had the most outstanding soloist and Pickering had the most spirited supporters. 

Twenty-three high school bands from throughout Louisiana participated in the contest.
