NATCHITOCHES – The NSU Steel Band is inviting area residents to learn a new instrument and join the ensemble.

NSU Steel Band Director Dr. Oliver Molina said the group meets on Thursdays during the spring semester from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 116 of the Fine Arts Annex. There is no charge to participate for those who are not Northwestern students. Molina said he wants participants to have fun, meet new people and make music.

The NSU Steel Band plays fun island tunes and pop arrangements on the steel pans, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. The group will perform as part of the Annual CAPA on the Cane event on March 9 and at their semester concert on April 26. A band performance is online at https://youtu.be/fY6hOpblejs.
