NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State University Jazz Orchestra will present a concert on Wednesday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A live stream of the concert will be available at nsula.edu/capa/capalivestream. Associate Professor of Music Galindo Rodriguez will conduct the orchestra. Ted Scott is the graduate assistant conductor. 

The featured guest artist is Northwestern State alumnus Carlos Ortiz IV.  

The orchestra will perform “Shoreline Drive” by Sammy Nestico, featuring Layton Zeringue on guitar, Jessica Dubose on trombone, Jarrett Thomissee, on tenor sax and Ever N. Galeas on trumpet, “Concerto for Cootie” by Duke Ellington and transcribed by David Berge featuring Ted Scott on trumpet, “Trinita” by Mark Taylor featuring Sadoc Silva Calderon and Evelyn Gardner on flugelhorn, “Maiden Voyage” by Herbie Hancock and arranged by Matt Niess and featuring Dubose on trombone, Colin Stevens on alto saxophone, Angel M. Murillo on drumset and Mario Orellana on piano.  

The Jazz Orchestra will also play “26-2″ by John Coltrane and arranged by Joseph Hanson featuring Daniel Scott on tenor saxophone and Mario Orellana on piano. Ortiz will be featured on “September in the Rain” by Harry Warner and arranged by Roy Hargrove, “Blue in Green” by Miles Davis and Bill Evans and arranged by Les Hooper and with Calderon and Ever Naum Galeas on Ortiz’s arrangement of “The Three Trumpeters” by Nicolas Payton.
