NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern Theatre and Dance will perform “Songs for a New World” Nov. 6-10 and 13-16 in Theatre West. Performance time is 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6-9 and 13-16 with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on Nov. 10. Tickets are $15 and $12 for students and senior citizens. Northwestern State, BPCC@NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students are admitted free with a current I.D. and sticker. Seats are limited and reservations are required. Tony award winner Jason Robert Brown’s first musical “Songs for a New World” is a theatrical song cycle spun around the theme of transformation and hope. Each song is a different scene in which the characters have to decide to “be safe or be free.” Featuring a plethora of musical styles, “Songs for a New World” addresses pertinent topics including immigration, war, poverty and death while assuring us that “a new world calls in the darkness.

Members of the crew are Stage Manager Caitlin Foster of LaPlace, Assistant Stage Managers Chloe Castello of Baton Rouge and Dustin Huffman of Mabank, Texas, Set Designer Anna Gautreaux of Houma, Choreographer Maci Burt of Mandeville, Costume Designer Nicole Lala of Kenner, Hair and Makeup Designer Serena Bonnette of Bush and Fight Captain Olivia Hancock of Dubach. Associate Professor of Theatre Paul Pharris is the light, sound and projection designer and fight choreographer.
