NATCHITOCHES – Madeleine “Maddy” Hensley of Anacoco and Darrin Nixon Jr. of Lake Charles were selected as queen and king of the 2021 Homecoming Honor Court at Northwestern State University.

Hensley and Nixon are part of a 24-member honor court, which will participate in activities during Homecoming Week at Northwestern State and will be presented at halftime of the Homecoming game against Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 23.

The court also includes Ar’Nijah Bradley of Grand Cane, DeShod Dixon of Alexandria, Destinee Mills of Jonesboro, Eben “Garrett” Cook of Lindale, Texas, Grace Gosserand of New Roads, Jamarcia Broadway of Shreveport, Jessica Mullican of DeRidder, Jonatan Jimenez and Kyle Scott of Bossier City, Jude Garrett of Youngsville, Katelyn “Katie” Kennedy of Baton Rouge, Kaylynn Semien and Matthew Courville of Opelousas, Logan Graves of Verda, Mekayla Jenkins of Jennings, Natalee Cook of Vivian, Raegan Washington and William Roberson of Natchitoches, Sarah Sargent of Lake Charles, Sheridan Duet of Thibodaux, Treyvin Aucoin of Rayne and Landon Stephens of Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Hensley is the daughter of Amy Haymon. She is a senior communication major and is active with the University Programming Council and previously involved with the Student Government Association. Hensley is a member of the Catholic Student Organization, Purple Jackets Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Order of Omega Honor Society, and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.  She was a Demon Dazzler and freshman orientation leader. Hensley was the 2020 Miss Northwestern Lady of the Bracelet and 2021 Miss Pride of NSU.

Nixon is the son of Tabitha and Darrin Nixon Sr. He is a junior psychology major. Nixon is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the NSU chapter of the NAACP. He received the first Lake Charles Mayor’s Mentorship Award, the Delta Sigma Theta Scholars Award and is a Tournament of the Stars Scholarship recipient.

Bradley is the daughter of Constance Boyd and the late Earnest Bradley. She is a junior biology major with a biomedical concentration. She is president of the Iota Mu chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is a member of Beta Beta Beta Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Helping Hands and the African-American Caucus. She is a President’s List student and a JOVE Scholar.

Dixon is the son of Roshanda Dixon and Brian Bennet. He is a senior health and exercise science major. Dixon is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Juice Athletics and the African-American Caucus.

Mills is the daughter of Rawlie and Tachau Mills. She is a junior criminal justice major. Mills is a member of the Iota Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Trio Student Support Services and Alpha Lambda Delta.

Cook is the son of Eben and Angela Cook. He is a senior psychology major. Cook is a Dean’s List student and has been active in the Student Government Association. He is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, the Interfraternity Council, NSU Presidential Ambassadors and the Order of Omega.

Gosserand is the daughter of Brandon and Brandy Gosserand. She is a junior biology and applied microbiology major. Gosserand is Student Government Association Senate Speaker. She was a freshman orientation leader and a member of Demon Volunteers in Progress, Alpha Lambda Delta, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Purple Jackets, Order of Omega, the President’s Leadership Program, Catholic Student Organization, and Tri Beta. Gosserand is a recipient of the Alpha Lambda Delta Jo Anne J. Trow National Scholarship and a two-time Morgan “Extra Mile” Scholarship Recipient.

Broadway is the son of Laura Davis. He is a junior psychology major with a concentration in industrial organization. Broadway is president of the NSU Psychology Club and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, Psi Chi Honors Society, Baptist Collegiate Ministry, the African-American Caucus and the NSU Chapter of the NAACP. He participated in the President’s Leadership Program. Broadway has been on the President’s List and Dean’s List.

Mullican is the daughter of Paige and Jess Mullican. She is a senior strategic communications and hospitality management and tourism major. Mullican is active in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and is vice president of the Purple Jackets Honor Society. She was a two-time orientation leader and is an alumna and current mentor in the President’s Leadership Program. Mullican is the President of the Demon Volunteers in Progress, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and was a three-year member of the  Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band. She is a student coordinator for the NSU Food Pantry. Mullican is the Recipient of the Jo Ann J. Trow National Undergraduate Scholarship for Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and has made the President’s List and the Dean’s List.

Jimenez is the son of Roberto Jimenez and Ana Damian. He is a junior biology major. Jimenez is a member of Pi Kappa Phi and is active in the Student Government Association. He is a recipient of the David Morgan First Generation Scholarship and the Extra Mile Scholarship.

Garrett is the son of Cherie and Richey Garrett. He is a senior general studies major. He is the current president of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  He has served on the University Programming Council as well as the Student Government Association. He is also a member of Students for Animal Protection.

Kennedy is the daughter of John and Rhondi Kennedy. She is a senior criminal justice major. Kennedy is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma. She is president of the Purple Jackets Honor Society and the Order of Omega, vice president of Demon Volunteers in Progress and former president of Alpha Lambda Delta. She is a President’s Leadership Program alumna and mentor and a two-time freshman orientation leader and student coordinator. Kennedy is a national student board member for Order of Omega, a Morgan Extra Mile Scholarship Recipient for Sigma Sigma Sigma and Joe Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship for Alpha Lambda Delta.

Semien is the daughter of Tasha Boyd and Andrus Semien. She is a senior nursing major. She is vice president of the Student Government Association and was previously academic affairs commissioner. Semien is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Scott is the son of Ted and LaKeitha Scott. He is a junior health and physical education major. Scott is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and is in the Call Me Mister program. He is a Dean’s List student and is a recipient of the 51 The Greatest Scholarship and the Big Al Scholarship.

Graves in the son of Jason and Vanessa Graves. He is a junior health and physical education major. Graves is a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and has been a freshman orientation leader. He is a Dean’s List student.

Courville is the son of Alan and Judy Courville. He is a junior communications major. Courville was a freshman orientation leader for two years and was a participant and mentor in the President’s Leadership Program. He is a member of Demon Volunteers in Progress.

Jenkins is the daughter of Taza and Nathaniel Andrus and Jerome and Mary Lewis. She is a junior communications major. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., president of the NSU Optimist Club and the NSU chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists and the NAACP, La Belle Femme, the NSU Dance Company and the Spirit of Northwestern Media Team. Jenkins received a NSU media showcase awards for photography and was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal for her work in starting an Optimist Club at NSU.

Cook is the daughter of Vanessa Cook. She is a junior elementary education major. Cook is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, the President’s Leadership Program, Demon Volunteers in. Progress, the Order of Omega; treasurer of Alpha Lambda Delta and was a freshman orientation leader for two years. Cook is a Morgan Extra Mile Scholarship recipient.

Washington is the daughter of Vallery and Ronnie Washington. She is a junior accounting major. She is a member of the Eta Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the African-American Caucus, the Demon Dazzlers and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

Sargent is the daughter of David and Donna Sargent. She is a junior biology major with a concentration in natural sciences. She is president of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and Service Committee Chairman for Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society. She is a member of Purple Jackets Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta, Demon Volunteers in Progress and Students for Animal Protection. Sargent was the first recipient of the Jack Pace Memorial Endowed Scholarship and earned a Northwestern State JOVE Research Scholarship. She has made the President’s List and Dean’s List.

Duet is the daughter of Dayna and Kenneth Duet. She is a senior hospitality management and tourism and new media, journalism, and communication major. Duet is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Demon Volunteers in Progress and is a President’s Leadership Program alumna and mentor. She has been a freshman orientation leader and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and the  Order of Omega. Duet is a student coordinator for the NSU Food Pantry.

Aucoin is the son of Dana Aucoin. He is a junior English major. Aucoin is a member of the NSU Dance Company and the Demon Heat Colorguard.  He was a freshman orientation leader.

Roberson is the son of Bishop William & First Lady Jeannine Roberson. He is a junior health and physical education major. He is a member of Theta Chi Fraternity where he was named Chapter Brother of the Month and is a recipient of a Call Me Mister Scholarship.

Stephens is the son of Ashley and Christopher Stephens.  He is a junior business administration major. Stephens is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Demon Volunteers in Progress and was Demon Days Event Chair. He is a is a President’s Leadership Program alumnus and mentor. Stephens has been a freshman orientation leader. He is an honor roll student.
