NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State University Jazz Orchestra will present a concert on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream of the concert will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream. Associate Professor of Music Galindo Rodriguez will conduct the orchestra. Ted Scott is the graduate assistant conductor.

The orchestra will play “Magic Flea” by Sammy Nestico featuring Ethan Maynard of Bossier City on tenor saxophone and Sebastian Osorio of Cartagena, Colombia, on baritone saxophone,  “Softly As In a Morning Sunrise” by Oscar Hammerstein II and Sigmund Rombuerg and arranged by Dave Wolpe featuring Mario G. Orrellanna of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on piano, “Alison’s Tune” By Steve Sample featuring Orrellana and Miguel Bustillo of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on vibes and “Coconut Champagne” by Denis De Blasio and Bob Lowden featuring Sadoc Silva Calderon of Cartagena, Colombia, on trumpet and Ossorio.

The Jazz Orchestra will also play “Just a Pretty Little Thing” by Tom Kubis featuring Bustillo on vibes and Rodriguez on flugelhorn, “A Night in Tunisia” by John “Dizzy” Gillespie and Frank Paparelli and arranged by Philip Mossman and featuring Blake Taggert of China Spring, Texas, and Calderon on trumpet, Jessica Dubose of Athens, Texas, on trombone and Taylor Pettus of Killen, Alabama, on alto saxophone, “Sing, Sang, Sung” by Gordon Goodwin featuring Ty Lewis of Little Elm, Texas, on drumset, Pettus on soprano saxophone and David Berrocal of Cartegena, Colombia, on piano, and “The Chicken” by Alfred James Ellis featuring Dubose and Michael King of Pineville, Texas, on trombone, Scott and Calderon on trumpet and Ossorio and Pettus on saxophone.
