Child Welfare Scholars

The goal of the Title IV-E Child Welfare Scholars program is to prepare social work students to become entry level child welfare professionals. The program offers learning and research opportunities which empower scholars to develop into capable and thriving professionals. The program also offers financial incentives.

Scholars complete specific child welfare courses during their time in the department’s Professional Program.  Scholars who agree to field work with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and to a one-year period of employment with the DCFS are eligible to apply for a $7,500 stipend to be granted during the semester(s) of Field Work. Scholars also are provided with three years of support following employment with the DCFS.

For more information on becoming a child welfare scholar, please contact the NSU Title IV-E Coordinator, Mrs. Lisa Mount, MSW, LCSW-BACS at childwelfare@nsula.edu or 318-357-4638.
