Programs

GREEK COMMUNITY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
The Office of Greek Life hosts educational sessions on various topics for the benefit of fraternity and sorority members. Many of these programs have a required attendance to train and educate the Greek Community.

GREEK 1010
This program is designed to educate students who are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority at Northwestern State on Greek Life. We discuss our history, values, and give an overview of each of our chapters.

CHILLIN & GRILLIN WITH THE GREEKS
This fun and relaxed event is designed to better acquaint new or interested students with members of our Greek Community. This event is typically held at the beginning of the fall semester as part of Demon Days.

WHAT’S THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN?
Since the safety of our students is our number one concern, the Office of Greek Life trains all new members of fraternities and sororities on health and safety topics such as hazing, alcohol, drugs, campus security, risk management, and sexual assault prevention.

GREEK WEEK
An entire week of events geared towards promoting Greek unity through fun and friendly competition. The team with the most points is awarded the Natalie Laurence Greek Week Trophy.

GREEK AWARDS
An awards ceremony designed to recognize the outstanding achievements of the Greek Community. At this event we honor chapters, members, advisors, teams, and award Greek Man & Woman of the Year.

PRESIDENTS’ LEADERSHIP RETREAT
This annual retreat takes place at the end of the spring semester in conjunction with the NSU Student Leader Retreat. Leadership and team building activities that take place are designed to bring the leaders of the Greek Community together as we collaborate, learn, and plan out the upcoming academic year.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL
One of the most exciting service events hosted by NSU Greeks is our annual Halloween Carnival. Greek Life partners with the President’s Leadership Program and Campus Housing every year so faculty and staff can bring their children for a night of games, trick-or-treating and fun! The Halloween Carnival has become a highly anticipated event for the NSU community.

NATIONAL HAZING PREVENTION WEEK
This week is an opportunity for campuses, schools, communities, organizations and individuals to raise awareness about the problem of hazing, education others about hazing, and promote the prevention of hazing.

INTERNATIONAL BADGE DAY
Originally created by the National Panhellenic Conference, the entire Greek Community joins in celebrating their membership in their organizations by proudly displaying their membership badge on this day.

NATIONAL RITUAL CELEBRATION WEEK
This week is designed to create activities and discussions that will encourage members to reflect on why fraternities and sororities have rituals, reflect on why fraternities and sororities were founded, explore what it means to live by one’s ritual, learn how to celebrate being a part of an interfraternal community, and discuss what being a member of an organization with a ritual means.

COUNCIL PROGRAMMING
Each council also holds numerous programs throughout the academic year such as recruitment activities, informationals, cookouts, bid day activities, step shows, service and philanthropic events, and brother and sisterhood building activities.
