Southern Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of the South

Southern Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of the South is a peer reviewed journal published twice a year from the Southern Studies Institute. The Department of Criminal Justice, History, and Social Sciences at Northwestern State University houses the institute.

Southern Studies began publishing in 1962 under the name “Louisiana Studies.” In 1977, the title of the journal changed to “Southern Studies” to present a wider array to topics, as many that relate to the state of Louisiana also relate to the south as a whole. Again, in 1990, the journal underwent a format change integrating new printing technologies along with a wider audience. Those volumes printed since 1990 are the New Series of the journal.
